Muscat: A student team from the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Muscat has developed an innovative project named "Misguard," an intelligent security tool designed to address misconfigurations in digital systems. This initiative reflects the awareness of Omani youth about the importance of cybersecurity and their ability to keep pace with rapidly evolving technological challenges. According to Oman News Agency, the project aims to automatically detect and promptly rectify security misconfigurations in digital systems, in line with global standards in this field. Saddam Al Hadabi, one of the team members, explained that the idea for the Misguard project emerged in response to a growing need in the local market for intelligent tools that support the automation and rapid enhancement of digital system security. He noted that the project involves developing a tool with an easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI), enabling users to scan system settings and verify their compliance with CIS Benchma rks. The tool also allows for the automatic correction of misconfigurations, the generation of detailed security reports, and integration with real-time threats via the Nisos platform, enhancing the solution's effectiveness in real-world operational environments. Al Hadabi emphasized that the team aims for the tool to be adopted by 10% of vital institutions in Oman by 2035. The tool targets achieving 95% compliance with CIS standards on devices scanned within the first year, in addition to integrating it with security monitoring and response platforms such as Splunk, ELK (SIEM), and SOAR. The student team consists of five cybersecurity students: Saddam Hussein Al Hadabi, Tariq Abdullah Al Rashdi, Al Muaied Mohammed Al Zakwani, Rudaina Abdullah Al Daghishi, and Maryam Yahya Al Rawahi.
