Muscat: Palestine called on the United Nations (UN) and the international community to take urgent action to halt the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, which has lasted for nearly 19 months, and to ensure the unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid to the civilian population. According to Oman News Agency, this was stated in three identical letters sent by Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations Riyad Mansour to the UN Secretary-General, the President of the Security Council for this month (Greece), and the President of the UN General Assembly. Palestine emphasized in these letters that Israel has continued to block the entry of humanitarian supplies for more than two months, in addition to its ongoing daily attacks that claim the lives and wounds of Palestinian children, women, and men. The letters emphasized that the world cannot remain indifferent to Israel's public calls to bomb food and aid warehouses in Gaza, revealing a clear intent to starve and deprive the Pale stinian people to death. Mansour referred to the statements of the UN Secretary-General and the UN humanitarian team in the occupied Palestinian territory, who expressed their rejection of the use of aid as a weapon of war. They also warned of Israel's attempts to shut down the aid distribution system run by the UN and its partners and replace it with a mechanism controlled by the Israeli military, in violation of basic humanitarian principles. The letters also warned of the danger of Israel targeting humanitarian workers and international organizations, noting the bombing of a Freedom Flotilla coalition ship in Maltese waters on 2 May 2025. The ship was carrying food and life-saving humanitarian aid, endangering the lives of 16 humanitarian workers and activists. Palestine called for all international efforts to pressure Israel to respect international humanitarian law and human rights law, and to ensure that Palestinian civilians receive the supplies and assistance necessary for their survival. It also c alled for holding Israeli officials, especially the prime minister, accountable for crimes committed against civilians, and for halting all Israeli plans and measures using diplomatic, legal, and economic tools, including an immediate arms embargo on Israel. Palestine also renewed its call to the Security Council and member states to take immediate action to implement its resolutions, most notably a permanent ceasefire and ensuring unhindered access to aid and essential services to the people of Gaza.
