Registration Opens for “Tawasul” Short Film Award for Youth

Muscat: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, represented by the Youth Communication and Dialogue Department, announced today the opening of registration and participation for the fourth edition of the "Tawasul" Short Film Award for Youth.

According to Oman News Agency, the award targets Omani filmmakers in the context of supporting cinematic creativity and promoting meaningful community dialogue. This edition focuses on exploring issues that concern individuals and society, emphasizing areas of meaningful discussion and the balanced handling of opinions and viewpoints. This includes topics related to the individual's relationship with themselves, their relationship with the group and the surrounding public environment, or the group's relationship with the local community or broader human society.

Hilal Saif Al Siyabi, Director General of the Directorate General of Youth at the Ministry, stated that the "Tawasul" Short Film Award continues its journey in its fourth edition for 2026, confirming its position in discovering youth energies and developing their capabilities in this field. Al Siyabi added that the award falls within the framework of support for youth creativity and enhancing the presence of national talents in the filmmaking industry. This aligns with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 to create an informed, knowledgeable society that preserves its identity, possesses skills and capabilities, and keeps pace with cognitive advancements and technological changes.

He clarified that the award has witnessed development over the past years in terms of participation and the quality of submitted works. Statistics from previous editions have shown an increase in the number of applicants, alongside a diversity of ideas and directorial styles, reflecting the youth's awareness and interest in producing meaningful cinematic content.

The Director General mentioned that the fourth edition serves as an extension of opening spaces for communication and dialogue with youth through different tools. It acts as a supporter of youth intellectual interests, with the award serving as a key medium for engagement. He pointed out that the award addresses important topics of interest to Omani youth, aligns with their aspirations at every stage, and highlights their creative energies in short filmmaking.
