Russian Physicians Propose Novel Global-First Strategy for Alzheimer’s Disease Treatment

Moscow: The press office of Sechenov University Medical Institute reported today that the university's physicians have proposed a novel strategy for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, a first in global medical practice, based on the technique of selective plasma adsorption of extracellular DNA. According to Oman News Agency, the press office explained that selective plasma adsorption of extracellular DNA is an extracorporeal therapeutic method that relies on the binding of DNA-containing structures from blood plasma, and is fundamentally distinct from conventional plasmapheresis procedures. It added: "The treatment course consisted of three sessions, with an interval of two to three days between each session, and 200% of the circulating blood plasma volume was processed during each session. Patients were assessed before and after the course of selective plasma adsorption." The university noted that physicians obtained positive results three months post-treatment, with observed improvements in episodic v erbal memory, information processing speed, and attention, as evidenced by neuropsychological assessment data, in addition to positive changes in patients' cognitive functions. Alzheimer's disease is one of the most common neurodegenerative disorders worldwide, and the medical community continues to search for effective therapies to slow its progression and improve patients' quality of life. This novel strategy represents a significant advancement in this field.
