Moscow, Scientists from the Russian Vyatka University have devised a way to recycle plastic medical waste without creating toxic substances. Scientists said that an effective way to get rid of plastic is combustion in an electric field, the effect of which ensures complete oxidation of the hydrocarbon base of the material with atmospheric oxygen. The proposed technology could become the basis for new energy-efficient waste incineration plants. The correct choice of waste disposal method is important for several reasons. Firstly, it is necessary to ensure the most complete waste disposal. Secondly, the safety of the final treatment products must be ensured because failure to dispose of certain categories of them can lead to serious environmental consequences that lead to waste residues to soil, air and living organisms. Scientists from the Russian Vyatka University explained that depending on the type, different physical, chemical and thermal methods are used to influence the polymer chain and obtain mater ials with a lower mass. According to them, the most effective and safest way to dispose of medical polymer products is incineration, and traditional combustion produces a large amount of incomplete oxidation products such as carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, phenols, and carcinogenic dioxins.
