Salalah Engineering Forum Discusses Applied Innovations, Transition in Energy Sector

Muscat: The 5th edition of the Salalah Engineering Forum, organized by Oman Society of Engineers, began in the Governorate of Dhofar today. The two-day event is held in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals under the title "Engineering energy transition: applied innovations for a resilient clean energy infrastructure." The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar.

According to Oman News Agency, the forum focuses on four main themes: "Integration of renewable energy and energy storage"; "Resilience of grids and artificial intelligence in energy"; "Removing carbon and low-carbon hydrogen"; and "The efficiency of energy and the circular economy." The event reviews 22 papers during four working sessions and includes two panel discussions, with participation from researchers and specialists representing eight countries: The Sultanate of Oman, Libya, Qatar, Palestine, Iraq, Iran, India, and Denmark.

The forum addresses the latest trends and technical solutions related to the evolution of the energy sector. It elaborates on the role of innovation and engineering in developing a more efficient, flexible, and sustainable infrastructure for energy. The first day included an exhibition showcasing solutions and initiatives in engineering and energy, alongside a display of projects competing for the Energy Horizon 2026 Award. This exhibition highlights programmes, solutions, and initiatives from various academic and private institutions, as well as graduation projects from universities in Oman, particularly those focusing on engineering solutions supporting energy sector transition.

On the forum's sidelines, Oman Society of Engineers signed a cooperation agreement with the Office of the Governor of Dhofar. This agreement aims to enhance support for professional and engineering initiatives in the governorate and to boost its status as a platform for specialized engineering dialogue that serves sustainable development tracks.
