Cairo: The Shura Council participated in the 43rd session of the Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, held in Cairo. The meeting was led by Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al Sheikh, President of the Union, and included representatives from various Arab councils and parliaments.
According to Oman News Agency, the committee addressed several agenda topics and reviewed reports from competent committees, as well as the Secretariat General's report on the Union's activities. Discussions included developments on the candidacy for the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and an emergency item to be submitted during the 153rd General Assembly of the IPU in Arusha, Tanzania, next October.
The meeting also covered a proposal to enhance joint parliamentary cooperation within the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) and a request from the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) for observer status in the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union.
Dr. Hamoud Ahmed Al Yahyai, a Member of the Shura Council and the Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, represented the Shura Council at the meeting.
