Muscat: More than 1,100 cooling units have been received at the Central Market for Vegetables and Fruits (Silal) in the Wilayat of Barka, South Al Batinah Governorate, since the start of market's operations in June 2024. The marketplace accommodated more than 26,000 tons of goods imported from countries of origin, in addition to local and neighboring markets. Silal seeks to develop wholesale trade, using a wide range of equipment and services that are aimed to serve traders, importers and exporters, said Othman Ali Al Hattali, Director of Operations at Silal Market. Al Hattali added in a press statement that the current capacity of Silal market stands at more than 25,000 tons of vegetables and fruits, noting that the market facilities were set up in a manner that preserves the quality of vegetables and fruits from damage, thereby cutting down the rate of loss through proper storage. Al Hattali pointed out that the market includes an air-conditioned wholesale hall occupying an area of 30,000 square metres, in addition to 90 refrigerated warehouses (area of 126 square meters per refrigerator). Al Hattali explained that all the refrigerators available in the market have so far been hired, much in confirmation of Silal market's significance to traders and members of the public.
