Social Development Ministry Unveils New Rehabilitation Halls for Disabled Adults

Manila:The Ministry of Social Development has announced the opening of new halls for the Occupational Rehabilitation Program, aimed at individuals with severe and multiple disabilities aged over 18. The initiative is financially supported by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO).

According to Oman News Agency, the launch event was presided over by Dr. Abdullah Hamoud Al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Development for Persons with Disability Affairs.

This project is part of the Ministry's broader strategy to enhance rehabilitation services and opportunities for individuals with disabilities, facilitating their empowerment and societal integration. The program is designed to help these individuals develop independent capabilities and engage in activities tailored to their abilities and needs. It includes rehabilitation programs that respect the age and individual differences of participants, and promotes integration among various specializations and services.

The program benefits over 100 individuals with severe and multiple disabilities, who are enrolled in centers such as the Physical Disability and Cerebral Palsy Center, the Intellectual Disability Center, and the Down Syndrome Center. It also aims to enhance the skills of female technical assistants through modern rehabilitation methods. The Ministry plans to expand the program to other government rehabilitation centers.

The initiative features a variety of rehabilitative activities that focus on life skills, self-care, psychomotor skills, and group play. It also includes vocational activities, drawing, coloring, and artistic and musical skills, which aim to boost self-reliance and societal participation, ultimately improving the quality of life for participants.

Furthermore, the new halls provide a safe and stimulating environment for training and rehabilitation, tailored to the needs and abilities of the beneficiaries. They also support service providers in delivering integrated rehabilitation programs and help alleviate the psychological burdens on families by offering specialized services.
