South Korea’s Forest Fires Lead to 26 Deaths and Enormous Destruction

Seoul: Forest fires in South Korea have killed 26 people, bringing the total death toll to 56. According to Oman News Agency, data released by the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH) indicate that the fires have resulted in 26 fatalities, along with eight serious injuries and 22 minor injuries. The devastating impact of the fires has also led to the displacement of 37,185 individuals. Out of those displaced, 20,485 have been able to return to their homes, while 16,700 remain unable to return. Efforts to extinguish the fires continue across 10 locations. The affected area has now reached 36,009 hectares, which is significantly larger than the area affected by the worst forest fires in South Korea's history in 2000, when 23,794 hectares were destroyed.
