Spain: Spain recorded 1,028 heat-related deaths during June 2026, according to data released by the Carlos III Health Institute in Madrid. The rising temperatures have significantly impacted public health, marking a concerning increase from the 407 heat-related fatalities recorded in the same period last year. According to Oman News Agency, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus highlighted that 150 million people across Europe are currently enduring extreme heat, with hundreds already succumbing to the harsh conditions. He expressed concerns over the preparedness of infrastructure, noting that many homes, workplaces, and schools are not adequately equipped to handle the scorching temperatures. Additionally, the increased demand for electricity to combat the heat has placed immense pressure on power grids. The issues are exacerbated by climate change and global warming, which have transformed what were once rare heatwaves into regular annual occurrences. The situation calls for urgent attention and adaptation measures to address the growing threat posed by these extreme weather events.
