Muscat: The State Council held its 7th session of the third regular convening during the 8th Term, focusing on critical legislative drafts aimed at addressing narcotics, personal data protection, and penal law amendments. According to Oman News Agency, the Council deliberated on a draft Law on Combating Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, guided by Article (50) of the Council of Oman Law. This initiative is part of the National Strategy for Combating Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances. The session was presided over by Sheikh Abdulmalik bin Abdullah Al Khalili, Chairman of the State Council. In parallel, the meeting addressed amendments to the Personal Data Protection Law. The proposed changes introduce a definition for 'automated processing' and delineate the law's scope concerning the personal data of natural persons in Oman. The amendments require data processors to delete personal data post-processing, except under specific conditions such as disputes or legal obligations. Additionally, the Counci l considered amendments to the Penal Law, aligning with the United Nations Convention Against Corruption. These revisions aim to enhance Oman's position in the Corruption Perceptions Index by bolstering anti-corruption systems and supporting corporate governance. These efforts are designed to protect economic interests and fulfill international commitments. The session also discussed the 'Draft Unified Scheme for International Land Transport Among GCC States,' as per Article (49) of the Council of Oman Law, emphasizing regional cooperation in transportation.
