Muscat: The National Team in charge of enhancing the performance of the Sultanate of Oman in the Global Innovation Index convened its twenty-first meeting under the leadership of Dr. Saif bin Abdullah Al Hadabi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation for Research and Innovation, and Head of the National Team for the Global Innovation Index.
According to Oman News Agency, the meeting examined the outcomes and recommendations from a working session on the International Policy Indicators Simulation System for policymakers in the Arab region. This session, organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), focused on discussing simulation mechanisms and methodologies for analyzing indicators proposed during the session.
Discussions included protocols for measuring gaps and formulating scenarios to enhance Oman’s performance in the Global Innovation Index. The meeting also evaluated progress on a medium-term plan and procedural steps to support the team responsible for policies and initiatives, as well as the data management team.
The Global Innovation Index team operates under the National Competitiveness Committee and is tasked with improving Oman’s performance in the index. This is achieved through an integrated approach that unifies national efforts and involves stakeholders in the national innovation system, aligning with the pillars of the Global Innovation Index.
This approach is aligned with Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit, the National Centre for Statistics and Information, and other relevant departments. The team conducts periodic assessments of innovation performance reports, identifies strengths and weaknesses, and develops strategies to improve Oman’s performance on the index. It also aims to empower the national innovation system, including infrastructure and digitalization, education, research, development, intellectual property, the business environment, and human capital development, while promoting cooperation among key sectors to achieve sustainable development goals.
