Muscat: A temporary ceasefire, brokered by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has taken effect around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant to allow repair work aimed at restoring power supplies to the Russian-controlled facility in southeastern Ukraine. According to Oman News Agency, the UN agency stated that Ukrainian technicians are scheduled to begin repairs on the damaged Ferrosplavna power line once the area has been cleared of mines. The plant is facing a critical shortage of diesel fuel reserves, risking a complete blackout within days unless electricity is restored or more fuel is delivered. External power to the plant has been cut since 20 August, forcing it to rely on emergency diesel generators to maintain its vital safety systems.
