Transport Ministry Opens Liwa Carriageway Link Between Sultan Qaboos Road, Al Batinah Expressway

Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology today opened 'Liwa Dual Carriageway Link' in North Al Batinah Governorate. The 5.5-km link runs between Liwa roundabout, on Sultan Qaboos Road, and the intersection of Al Batinah Expressway.

According to Oman News Agency, the project was carried out by conducting four main operations. These included converting the existing road from a single carriageway to a dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction, featuring a 22.1 meters cross-section. Additionally, the construction involved two new roundabouts, entry and exit routes, and service roads on both sides to ease the flow of traffic.

The project was implemented in accordance with standard specifications, incorporating traffic safety measures, protective barriers, guiding signs, colored alerts, and lighting poles. The road aims to facilitate traffic between the center of the Wilayat of Liwa and nearby villages, enhance commercial activity, and serve road users along the road linking Sohar Port and Sohar Free Zone, thereby supporting economic growth in the region.
