ISWA World Congress 2023 Underscores Environmental Sustainability

Muscat, The 39th world congress of the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) laid emphasis on commitment to environmental sustainability and proper management of waste materials.

Hosted by Oman Environmental Services Holding Company (Be’ah), the congress, which runs until 1 November 2023, is being attended by participants from 55 countries representing 145 institutions and companies operating in the sector of waste management.

Titled “Global Action Toward a Net Zero Future.”, the event includes workshops and interactive dialogue sessions run by the most prominent global companies and bodies working in the sector of waste management and environmental services.

The second day of the congress addressed the urgent need to reach zero neutrality, reduce pollution rates and enhance sustainability by spreading sound waste management and sanitary disposal practices.

It also stressed the need to cut down emissions to limit the impacts of climate change, as measures to endorse circular economy mechanisms to reduce the amount of waste. In this context, the congress highlighted the role of modern technologies in boosting sustainability, as well as aspects of sound leadership, diversity and promotion of justice through good governance. This, the conferees affirmed, requires the espousal of safety practices and training human resources in the waste management sector.

The 39th world congress of the International Solid Waste Association sets the stage for joint global climate action and acts as an incubator for global efforts to make headways into more innovative solutions and build a sustainable green future.
