Oman Highlights Urgency of Addressing Regional Challenges at GCC-US Meeting in New York

New york: The Sultanate of Oman participated in the joint meeting between the Foreign Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states and the United States of America. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The delegation of the Sultanate of Oman was headed by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister.

According to Oman News Agency, Sayyid Badr emphasized the longstanding relations between Oman and the United States, highlighting their cooperation in protecting global energy supplies, combating terrorism, securing maritime navigation, and supporting peace efforts. He stated that this partnership requires immediate action to tackle current challenges.

Sayyid Badr pointed to the injustice faced by the Palestinian people due to ongoing Israeli violations, which have resulted in famine, displacement, and the destruction of hospitals and schools. He declared these actions to be unacceptable and a violation of international law.

He criticized Israel’s actions as inconsistent with its peace claims, noting that its actions such as assassinating negotiators, bombing hostages, and starving civilians contradict its stated intentions.

Sayyid Badr referred to Oman’s role in hosting talks between the United States and Iran regarding the nuclear file earlier this year. He noted that an attack by Israel on Iran in June undermined the sixth round of talks, which was expected to be decisive.

He stressed the need for a credible political process to replace the current approach, warning that failure to act will lead to further instability in the region and internationally.

Sayyid Badr reiterated the commitment of Oman and the GCC states to strengthen their partnership with the United States, asserting that stopping violence and working towards a just and lasting peace are essential for the partnership’s success.
