The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants welcomed, in a statement on Saturday, the United Nations General Assembly's decision regarding the eligibility of the State of Palestine for full membership in the organization, as Lebanon and the Arab Group, out of 143 countries, voted in favor of this decision. The Ministry reiterated "the necessity of giving peace a real chance after more than 75 years of occupation, tragedies, and devastation, through recognition and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital." It also considered the latest resolution as 'a step in the right direction to restore Palestinian rights and achieve sustainable security and stability in our region.'
