Education Minister attends launch of joint academic chair on Gulf identity, citizenship

Manama, The Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS) and the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) launched a joint academic chair on Gulf identity and citizenship. The launching ceremony was attended by Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, the Minister of Education and Chairman of the Higher Education Council, at the Prince Abdulaziz bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Hall in the Princess Al Jawhara Center for Molecular Medicine and Inherited Disorders. Also in attendance were Dr. Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al Asmi, Director-General of the ABEGS, and Dr. Saad bin Saud Al Fuhaid, President of the AGU. Dr. Juma highlighted that the launch of this chair aligns with the leading role played by the ABEGS and the AGU as key contributors to the cooperative framework established by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). He emphasised that this initiative reaffirms the historic ties and close cooperation among Gulf countries, under the directives of their leaders. He expressed hope that the chair would advance academic resear ch, and contribute to enriching Gulf libraries and raising awareness of Gulf identity and citizenship. Dr. Al Asmi stated that the chair aims to foster interest in Gulf identity and citizenship, and support research, writing, translation, and the development of training materials in this area. He noted that this launch is part of the partnership between the bureau and the university, with member states placing great importance on promoting citizenship values through their curricula and educational programmes. Dr. Al Fuhaid commended the Gulf leaders' commitment to strengthening Gulf identity and citizenship values, emphasising their support for education as the foundation of development and growth. A joint agreement was signed to establish the research chair, along with a memorandum of understanding between the bureau's library and the university. Source: Bahrain News Agency
