MUSCAT: The Ministry of Health in Oman announced a significant milestone in the country's healthcare system following the approval of several health projects and programs by the Council of Ministers. The initiatives, which were discussed in a meeting chaired by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, are seen as pivotal steps towards enhancing the healthcare infrastructure and services in the Sultanate.
According to Oman News Agency, Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, the Minister of Health, praised the Council of Ministers for their directive to implement a national program aimed at early cancer screening for women. This initiative involves the establishment of seven early detection units distributed across all governorates in Oman. Dr. Hilal emphasized that this move underscores the government's commitment to improving the quality of life for its citizens by facilitating early detection, treatment, and disease prevention through advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence.
The minister also highlighted plans to develop a nuclear radioisotope facility and a nuclear pharmacy, which are intended to meet the increasing demand for radiopharmaceutical isotopes in cancer diagnosis and treatment. These facilities are expected to position Oman as a hub for research and education in this field. Additionally, the establishment of a national ophthalmology and eye surgery center will cater to the growing need for specialized eye care services and will be equipped with cutting-edge diagnostic technologies.
Dr. Hilal further detailed the creation of the National Human Genome and Data Centre, or Genome Oman, which aims to establish a comprehensive genomic database for Omanis. This initiative is expected to enhance the accuracy of medical diagnoses and improve the delivery of precision medicine and healthcare services.
Expressing the Health Ministry's dedication, Dr. Hilal stated that they are committed to implementing the Council's directives by developing strategic plans to bring these projects to fruition. These initiatives align with the health priority goals outlined in Oman Vision 2040, which focus on ensuring equitable and high-quality healthcare across all regions of the Sultanate.
