UTAS Council Reviews Academic Policies and Approves New Initiatives

Muscat: The Council of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) convened its third meeting for the academic year 2025/2026 at the university's headquarters in Muscat today. The session was led by Anwar Hilal Al Jabri, the Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, and the Chairman of the University Council.

According to Oman News Agency, the Council assessed the follow-up report on the implementation of decisions from the previous session. The review focused on the progress made in executing these resolutions and the actions taken by various academic and administrative sectors of the university. This review aims to ensure that decisions are executed within the specified timelines and that their objectives are achieved.

The Council deliberated on several important topics, including student conduct regulations and a set of 12 university policies. These policies cover a broad range of areas such as council management, information security, benchmarking, academic integrity, the development and review of academic programs, student complaints and grievances, human resources management, asset management, health and safety, scientific research ethics, scientific publishing, and engagement with the community and industrial sectors. These discussions are part of ongoing efforts to support continuous development and enhance the university's contributions to higher education, scientific research, and innovation.

In addition to policy discussions, the Council approved the admission plan for the academic year 2026/2027, which anticipates enrolling 12,000 male and female students in coordination with the Higher Education Admission Centre at the Ministry of Education. The Council also sanctioned the awarding of academic degrees to 2,112 male and female students who completed their graduation requirements in the spring semester of the academic year 2025/2026.

The Council also reviewed a follow-up report on decisions issued by circulation during the academic year 2025/2026. This review included an examination of the organizational structure of the Advanced Cybersecurity Academy, as part of efforts to enhance academic programs and institutional performance quality.

Additionally, the Council received a presentation on the executive status of the university's QS World University Rankings project. It approved a proposal to introduce a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy program at the College of Applied Sciences and Pharmacy, along with a presentation on the university's performance indicators and achievements within the framework of Oman Vision 2040.
