Japan’s Nikkei Index Achieves Four-Week High with AI and Semiconductor Boost

Tokyo: The Japanese Nikkei index surged by 2.08 percent today, reaching its highest level in approximately four weeks, driven by gains in the artificial intelligence and semiconductor sectors.

According to Oman News Agency, the Nikkei closed at 66,970.22 points, marking its highest closing level since July 15. The broader Topix index also experienced an increase, rising by 0.63 percent to 4,100.61 points. Notably, shares of semiconductor companies Advantest and Tokyo Electron rose by 6.43 percent and 4.13 percent, respectively. Additionally, the stock of optical-fiber cable manufacturer Fujikura jumped by 7.62 percent.

Furthermore, Ibiden, a supplier to Nvidia in the AI domain, saw its shares rise by 4.03 percent. Recruit Holdings experienced a significant increase, jumping by 22.79 percent. In contrast, shares of Mitsui Kinzoku, a manufacturer of materials for lithium-ion batteries, fell by 13.55 percent.
