Muscat: Pakistan has launched a polio vaccination campaign today in the province of Balochistan, as part of ongoing national efforts to eradicate the virus. According to Oman News Agency,the campaign targets high-risk districts within the province, including Quetta, Chaman, Qilla Abdullah, Pishin, and Parshor.
The initiative aims to reach more than 300,000 children under the age of ten. Pakistani authorities have urged families to ensure their children receive the vaccine to safeguard them against the disease.
It is worth recalling that Pakistan and Afghanistan remain the only two countries in the world where polio is still endemic.
Polio is a highly infectious and incurable disease that can cause lifelong paralysis. However, it is entirely preventable through the administration of multiple doses of the oral polio vaccine to every child under five years of age, in addition to the timely completion of routine immunization schedules.
