Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Yemen signed two significant cooperation agreements in Salalah today. These agreements focus on the electrical interconnection project between Oman's Dhofar Governorate and Yemen's Al Mahra Governorate, marking a step forward in enhancing bilateral relations and joint cooperation between the two nations.
According to Oman News Agency, the first agreement was signed by Eng. Ali Issa Shammas, CEO of Nama for Dhofar Services, representing Oman, and Othman Mohammed Owaid, Director General of the Public Electricity Corporation in Al Mahra Governorate, representing Yemen. The second agreement involved Ahmed Salim Al Abri, CEO of Nama for Power and Water Procurement from Oman, and Eng. Mohsen Ali Balhaf, Director of the Yemen Petroleum Company in Al Mahra Governorate from Yemen.
The project is part of ongoing efforts to bolster cooperation in electrical power, aiming to stabilize and enhance electricity supply in Al Mahra Governorate through linkage with the Dhofar Governorate's electricity grid. This collaboration is expected to improve the energy infrastructure and meet the electrical demands in the targeted areas.
The agreement outlines the delivery of electrical power to several regions in Al Mahra Governorate in its initial phase, including the cities of Hawf and Shahn, with estimated loads of 3 megawatts and 5 megawatts respectively. Additionally, Al Ghaydah is set to receive up to 50 megawatts. This initiative underscores the critical importance of partnership in the electrical power sector, enhancing infrastructure and addressing the energy needs of the beneficiary areas to support social and commercial advancement.
