Muscat: The National Heart Centre at the Royal Hospital has recorded a medical achievement, the first of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman, as a medical team has managed to implant the first CardioMEMS sensor for the remote monitoring of patients with heart failure.
According to Oman News Agency, the sensor implantation procedure was performed by a specialized medical team comprising Dr. Arif Ishaq Al Balushi and Dr. Amna Sulaiman Al Busaidi. This step reflects the trend toward employing modern medical technologies in the follow-up of heart failure patients and enhancing the healthcare provided to them.
The sensor enables wireless, direct measurement of pulmonary artery pressure through interventional catheterization, without the need for open surgery. This contributes to continuous monitoring of the patient's condition and supports timely therapeutic decision-making.
The device provides a proactive monitoring system by transmitting daily readings related to hemodynamics and pulmonary artery pressure levels to the medical team. This enables the detection of changes in the patient's condition and the early identification of indicators of health deterioration and fluid retention before clinical symptoms appear.
This technology allows medical personnel to adjust treatment plans and medication dosages in accordance with changes in the patient's condition. It reduces the need for repeated hospital visits and emergency admissions, thereby contributing to enhancing the stability of the patient's health and improving the quality of life of patients and their families.
