Arab League Secretary-General: Continuation of Palestinian-Israeli conflict portends worst consequences

Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, said that the continuation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the disregard of the two-state solution, in light of suspicious international silence and amidst a sharp and dangerous shifting towards the right in Israel and the deepening despair, portends the worst consequences.

He stressed during his speech before the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership in its second session, held in the Jordanian capital, Amman in the presence of Jordan’s King Abdullah II, that the frustration of the Palestinian people portends the worst consequences, threatens the stability of the entire region, and undermines regional cooperation efforts.

He said that the international community is required to assume its responsibilities towards stopping this accelerating deterioration in the Palestinian situation and to work towards launching serious efforts to achieve a settlement based on the two-state solution.
