Manama, Lieutenant General Tariq bin Hasan Al Hasan, the Chief of Public Security, confirmed that the Coast Guards continued security efforts to preserve fish wealth in Bahrain's territorial waters, by taking all measures to contribute to regulate fishing. The chief of public security added that in line with the directives of General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the Interior Minister, programmes are being implemented to ensure a safe maritime environment as the Coast Guard works in accordance with the latest technological and training systems. A total of 59 inspection campaigns from February to August were carried out to address marine violations and monitor the sailors' adherence to fishing regulations, ensure the validity of maritime licenses, the availability of marine safety tools and verify the safety procedures of workers on fishing boats. The number of cases seized by the Coast Guards during the same months were 70, while the seized marine wealth reached 2,532 kilograms, 103 illegal nets were confiscated and 192 criminals were referred to the Public Prosecution. The chief also added that the maritime security campaigns would be intensified to protect marine wealth by addressing illegal fishing activities and enforcing the law in coordination with the relevant authorities.
