Muscat:A joint interactive scientific meeting titled "Child Protection as an Integrated System Between Research and National Mechanisms" was organized today by the Ministry of Social Development in collaboration with Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) at the university's Cultural Centre.
According to Oman News Agency, the meeting aimed to foster integration between academic and practical entities in child protection. It sought to connect research outcomes with national mechanisms adopted by the Ministry of Social Development to enhance the protection system and promote children's best interests.
The event targeted specialists from various entities involved in child protection, including the Ministry of Social Development, the Ministry of Defense, the Royal Oman Police, the Public Prosecution, the Ministry of Education, civil society organizations, and Sultan Qaboos University students. The goal was to enhance the exchange of expertise and experiences and integrate roles in this field.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to utilize the research efforts of Sultan Qaboos University students, particularly their Master's theses, to support and develop national practices in child protection. Attendees reviewed several scientific studies and outputs related to this area.
Additionally, the meeting highlighted the updated Child Protection Guidance Manual for 2025 and its joint executive procedures among competent entities. Marwa Hassan Al Balushi, Head of the Protection House Department, presented mechanisms for prevention, intervention, psychological rehabilitation, and community integration for children exposed to abuse.
This meeting is part of the Ministry of Social Development's commitment, through its Department of Social Studies, to enhance partnerships with Sultan Qaboos University, represented by the Department of Sociology and Social Work at the College of Arts and Social Sciences. The aim is to utilize scientific research results to develop national child protection practices and mechanisms, raise individual and community awareness, and create a safe and supportive environment for children's growth.
