Council of Oman Engages in Key Parliamentary Conference in Jakarta


Jakarta: The Council of Oman is actively participating in the 19th session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) Conference in Jakarta, Indonesia. The event, themed ‘PUIC’s Silver Jubilee: Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience,’ is scheduled to conclude on 15 May.



According to Oman News Agency, the Omani delegation is led by Khalid Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Shura Council. The conference agenda includes the election of Vice-Presidents for the Arab and African groups, adoption of the Secretary-General’s report, speeches by various heads of councils and delegations, and discussion of reports and draft resolutions from standing committees. Additionally, committee membership nominations and the final report of the session will be addressed.



On the sidelines, the Omani delegation will engage in meetings of the PUIC’s Executive Committee and various standing committees. These include the Political Affairs and Foreign Relations Committee, the Human Rights, Women, and Family Committee, and several others focusing on cultural, economic, and environmental issues.



The delegation from Oman consists of Sheikh Ahmed Mohammed Al Nadabi, Secretary-General of the Shura Council; Mohammed Salim Al Harthy, member of the State Council; and Shura Council members Khalil Khalfan Al Wahibi, Said Mohammed Al Saadi, and Younis Mohammed Al Siyabi. Their participation is aimed at bolstering parliamentary diplomacy and supporting collaborative legislative initiatives.



Furthermore, the Council of Oman took part in a coordination meeting of Gulf legislative councils on the fringes of the conference. Discussions in this meeting focused on the agenda of the Union’s Executive Committee and the 26th session of the General Committee, as well as nominations for the Executive Committee and specialized standing committees.
