Muscat: The National Olympic Shooting Complex (NOSC) in Muscat was officially opened today under the patronage of HH Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs. The facility's inauguration aligns with Oman's ongoing efforts to enhance development and modernization, aiming to maintain high national standards.
According to Oman News Agency, the ceremony commenced with HH Sayyid Shihab unveiling a commemorative plaque, signifying the official opening of the National Olympic Shooting Complex. Attendees were then presented with a visual overview of the construction phases of the NOSC, highlighting its facilities, services, and modern technological equipment.
Following the presentation, HH Sayyid Shihab toured the complex's facilities, receiving briefings on each shooting range and its supporting units. HH Sayyid Azzan bin Qais Al Said, Chairman of the Oman Olympic Committee, remarked on the significance of the NOSC as a sporting accomplishment, emphasizing its role as a hub for sports talents and a venue for both local and international events. He also acknowledged the continuous support from His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik for the sports sector, underscoring sports as a key component of sustainable development in Oman.
Vice Admiral Abdullah bin Khamis Al Raisi, Chief of Staff of the Sultan's Armed Forces and Chairman of the Oman Shooting Association, highlighted the NOSC as a testament to Oman's commitment to sporting excellence. He noted that the facility serves as a nurturing ground for skills and a platform for Olympic champions, in line with the strategic vision of Oman Vision 2040.
The NOSC was constructed to meet the highest international standards as set by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), ensuring that it fulfills all technical and organizational requirements for Olympic shooting sports. The complex stands as a significant achievement in Oman's sports infrastructure, supporting athletes in training, competition, and achieving excellence.
The facility comprises several buildings, including a main building spanning 2,400 square meters, which houses administrative offices, a weapons warehouse, an ammunition store, a restaurant, and a media broadcasting room. The complex also features a 10-metre shooting range with 80 targets, a 25-metre range with 50 targets, and a 50-metre range with 80 targets, making it one of the most prominent shooting ranges in the region. Additionally, there is a large hall for final competitions, capable of accommodating 10 shooters.
The opening ceremony was attended by government officials, senior officers of the Sultan's Armed Forces, members of the Oman Shooting Association, and representatives from other military and security services.
