South al batinah: Details of the Sand Sports Games within the activities of ‘Experience South Al Batinah’ in its third edition for the year 2026 were unveiled today. The event will be held during January in the Al Abyadh sands ‘Khabbat Al Qa’adan’ in the Wilayat of Nakhal. This announcement was made during a press conference at the South Al Batinah Governor’s office, attended by Eng. Masoud Said Al Hashmi, Governor of South Al Batinah, and several officials from relevant entities.
According to Oman News Agency, the event included the signing of a contract for managing and executing the events. The Governor of South Al Batinah signed a contract with Oman 4×4 Teams Club, which will oversee the implementation and management of the sand activities and racing championship ‘Experience South Al Batinah’ for 2026, set to be held in the Al Abyadh sands.
In his speech during the conference, the Governor of South Al Batinah stated: ‘Today’s announcement discloses the details of the sand racing sports event, which will be held this year in the Al Abyadh sands in the Wilayat of Nakhal. It includes a number of specialized competitions, such as sand drag races for motorcycles and cars, alongside demonstration activities targeted at youth and amateurs.’ He emphasized that the events would be complemented by programs and supporting activities across the governorate’s wilayats, aiming to highlight their tourism and heritage assets and engage the local community.
He explained that these events are part of an integrated vision seeking to highlight the natural and tourism assets abundant in South Al Batinah Governorate. The initiative aims to provide qualitative experiences for visitors and participants, support youth initiatives and sporting activities, and enhance partnerships with the private sector, contributing to sustainable developmental returns for the governorate.
For his part, Badr Mohammed Al-Saidi, Director General of South Al Batinah Municipality, clarified that the ‘Drag Race’ events are scheduled for 15-17 January 2026, while the ‘Backfire’ and ‘Burnout’ events will occur on 23 January. He affirmed that all events will be organized following the highest safety standards in coordination with relevant authorities. He added that organizing these events supports youth and sporting initiatives, stimulates domestic tourism, and highlights the natural assets of the wilayats within South Al Batinah Governorate. The partnership with the private sector is seen as a fundamental element in ensuring the success of the events and achieving their developmental and economic goals.
