Environment Authority Attributes Death of Sperm Whale in Barka to Natural Circumstances

BARKA: The Environment Authority has announced that the death of a sperm whale found off the coast of Al Sawadi in the Wilayat of Barka is likely due to natural causes. Initial investigations revealed the presence of disease-related parasites in the whale's carcass, pointing to natural circumstances as the probable cause. According to Oman News Agency, the whale measured over 15 metres in length, and an autopsy indicated it was suffering from a disease, evident from the numerous parasites discovered. The Environment Authority has sent samples of the whale's remains to Sultan Qaboos University for further analysis to confirm the cause of death. The Authority has identified the whale and is thoroughly studying the circumstances surrounding its demise. In response to the incident, a dedicated team was formed to manage the situation. This team worked tirelessly for 55 hours to collect necessary samples, after which the whale was buried with the help of various organizations. Sperm whales, which can reach lengt hs of up to 18 metres and weigh as much as 57,000 kilograms, inhabit the deep waters of the Sea of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
