Finance minister discusses Palestinian government’s financial and economic situation with World Bank delegation

RAMALLAH, Finance Minister Shukri Bishara today briefed a delegation of executive directors of the World Bank, headed by Dean of the World Bank Board of Executive Directors, Mirza Hassan, on the Palestinian government’s financial and economic situation and its reform plans in face of the Israeli deductions from the Palestinian Authority’s tax revenues.

The finance minister further discussed during a meeting in Ramallah several other issues undermining the Palestinian economic revival and growth.

The minister stressed that the Palestinian government operates in exceptional circumstances as a result of the continued Israeli deductions of Palestinian money which impedes the Palestinian developmental and financial progress.

Bishara praised the World Bank’s key role in supporting developmental projects reflecting the government’s vision of national political agendas and guidelines in the context of supporting several sectors, including supporting the Palestinian private sector, investing in renewable energy, and creating job opportunities to empower marginalized groups.

For its part, the World Bank delegation commended the ministry’s reform plans for the management of the financial crises in light of the challenges facing the state of Palestine, affirming complete readiness to provide substantive support to the ministry’s reform efforts.
