Al buraimi: The inaugural Forum for Arab Women Researchers, themed "Arab Women Researchers Towards the Future: Inspiring Experiences and Profound Insights," began today in Al Buraimi Governorate. The two-day event was inaugurated by Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrooqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, under the slogan "Sharing Expertise is Our Path to Excellence."
According to Oman News Agency, the minister highlighted that Oman's hosting of this forum reflects a strong Arab commitment to supporting and empowering women researchers, which is crucial for advancing science and sustainable development. She emphasized the active role Omani and Arab women have played in research, contributing significantly to innovation. The forum aims to foster collaboration and the exchange of expertise among Arab women researchers, enhancing the capacity of knowledgeable societies to compete globally.
The forum gathers Arab women researchers from various scientific and academic fields, along with presidents and representatives from Arab, regional, and international organizations, federations, and institutions. It is organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation in cooperation with the Department of Science and Research at the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), the Omani National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, and Al Buraimi University.
The event's objectives include enhancing the exchange of expertise and experiences among Arab women researchers, showcasing inspiring models, and empowering women in research, technology, and innovation. This initiative aligns with the Arab Strategy for Research, Technology, and Innovation and aims to strengthen the presence of women researchers in scientific institutions, supporting their participation in shaping scientific policies and programs at both national and Arab levels.
Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, remarked that women's participation is vital for achieving a sustainable scientific renaissance. He noted the leadership role Arab women have assumed in research and innovation, stating that the forum reflects ALECSO's vision of supporting women's involvement in research and aligning with the Arab Strategy for Research and Innovation.
Dr. Mohammed Sand Abu Darwish, Director of the Department of Science and Research at ALECSO and Chairman of the Scientific Committee, emphasized the importance of supporting Arab women researchers, given their crucial role in developing scientific systems. He mentioned that the forum translates the recommendations of the Arab Forum for Scientific Research and Sustainable Development, supporting ALECSO's vision for promoting Arab cooperation in research and innovation.
Dr. Mahmoud Abdullah Al Abri, Secretary of the Omani National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, highlighted the historical contributions of women in developing sciences and knowledge. He explained that Omani women have been empowered through research centers, funding programs, and international cooperation, contributing to their prominent presence in various scientific fields.
Dr. Said Eid Younis, Vice-Chancellor of Al Buraimi University, stated that the forum aligns with the university's commitment to supporting research and fostering innovation. He noted that the university's efforts are consistent with Oman Vision 2040's goals of building a knowledge-based economy.
The forum's first day featured specialized scientific sessions reviewing the latest research experiences and future visions of Arab women researchers. Discussions included the reality of Arab research, challenges facing higher education in the Arab world, and the role of Arab identity in shaping cultural and knowledge policies.
The second day will feature sessions on sustainability, the knowledge economy, artificial intelligence, and enhancing research in the Arab world, concluding with a session on inspiring Arab experiences in health and medical research, and the formulation of recommendations.
