Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad al-Malki discussed during a meeting today with his Canadian Counterpart Marc Garneau in Ramallah the latest political developments on the Palestinian arena.

Malki briefed his counterpart on the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people and the escalation in Israeli settlement activities throughout the West Bank and East Jerusalem, particularly against Palestinians in Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah, Silwan, and al-Bustan neighborhoods.

He stressed that Israel’s newly-approved settlement projects in the occupied West Bank are clear evidence that Israel is going forward with its colonial expansion plans and is resolving its internal crises at the expense of the Palestinian right, as was the case with previous governments.

He called on the Canadian government to intervene and put a stop to Israel’s colonial policy, particularly in occupied East Jerusalem, stressing the need for the international community to act collectively and take initiatives to stop the Israeli violations and protect the rights of the Palestinian people, including the right to self-determination based on international law.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening the role of the International Quartet in moving the peace process forward in order to achieve a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with international legitimacy and the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and General Assembly.

The two ministers discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance them in all fields to serve the best interests of both countries.
