FM warns of any new Israeli settlement projects following Biden’s visit

RAMALLAH, Sunday, July 17, 2022 (WAFA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates warned today against the consequences of any approval by the Israeli government of any new settlement projects in the occupied Palestinian territories in general and in Jerusalem in particular following US President Joe Biden’s visit to the region.

According to a statement by the Ministry, some of these projects were postponed until after Biden’s visit in an ugly Israeli exploitation of the visit for further settlement building, which is a main theme of competition in the Israeli election campaign.

The Ministry urged the international community and the US administration to pay attention to this issue, especially since US President Biden explicitly called for an end of all unilateral measures, foremost of which is the settlement file because of its catastrophic impact on the chances of a two-state solution.

Settlements, according to the statement, are “a major obstacle to establishing an independent, viable and geographically contiguous Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, as stated by the US President himself in the press release in Bethlehem.”
