Foreign Minister hails Bahraini women’s diplomatic achievements

Foreign Minister, Head of the National Human Rights Commission, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, hailed the initiatives of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), in support of Bahraini women’s rights and active participation in achieving security and peace and supporting the development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

He congratulated HM the King, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister and Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and SCW President, on the 22nd anniversary of the establishment of the council.

Dr. Al Zayani hailed the council’s efforts, led by HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, spanning more than two decades, to develop legislations to consolidate women’s role in sustainable development.

He highlighted Bahraini women’s strides, holding leading and diplomatic positions as former speaker of the Council of Representatives, president the UN General Assembly.

He indicated that five women now hold ministerial portfolios, making up 22% of the Cabinet, 23% of the National Assembly, 43% of the national workforce and 34% of the diplomatic personnel.

He commended constructive cooperation between the Foreign Ministry and the Supreme Council For Women in drawing up the 2022-2026 Human Rights Plan, in line with the 2013-2026 National Plan for Bahraini Women’s Advancement.
