RAMALLAH, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates today welcomed statements that have explicitly condemned the Israeli occupation’s assault on Al-Aqsa Mosque, while at the same time criticizing others that were not as explicit.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomes the positions of the countries that have expressed their condemnation and denunciation of the dreadful Israeli assault against the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque and the worshipers and which held the Israeli government responsible for this aggression and its dangerous consequences on the conflict, and demanded to stop it immediately,” it said in a statement.
“At the same time, the Ministry expresses its astonishment at the level of recent statements issued by the foreign ministries of some countries about the events of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Al-Haram Al-Sharif, and deplores the kind of language used as it did not rise up to the level of the event and our expectations, especially in light of the heinous violations committed by the occupation forces and the Israeli apartheid against the holy places and worshipers, and the unjustified storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque on the second Friday of the holy month of Ramadan, and the beating, destruction, arrest and vandalism that left hundreds injured and detained, including large numbers of children.”
The ministry added that it “believes that, unfortunately, the statements, in their entirety, did not live up to the level of the event and expectations, and did not touch on the truth or reflect on what happened, but rather hid behind general rhetoric condemning an anonymous party and calling on everyone to calm down. Things must be called by their names, and it must be recognized that the State of Israel occupies the land of the State of Palestine and that the actions of the brutal occupation police exceed the level of fascism, malice, hatred and racism that was manifested in the nature of the assault on citizens, worshipers and those present in the courtyards of Al-Haram Al-Sharif.”
The Foreign Ministry stressed that “this aggression must be condemned by everyone and not covered up in general statements that provide protection for these racist behaviors. What happened yesterday is considered an Israeli violation of the sanctity of the holy place, a violation of international law and international humanitarian law, a violation of the right to worship, a violation of freedom of movement and access to places of worship, a violation of the sanctity of the month of Ramadan, and a violation of the sanctity of Friday. What we witnessed was violent aggression against worshipers, against Muslims and humanity, in a religious racist expression that looks down on the human being, his humanity and his right to the place.”
It said that “such statements do not exert any pressure on the occupying state to stop its violations and crimes. Rather, Israel exploits them as an occupying power to persist in its acts and behavior as a state above the law and accountability and leads it to commit more violations. It is clear that the issuers of these statements still follow double standards in dealing with the Palestinian issue compared to the statements we read daily about their positions towards other global issues occurring in a continent not far from us. The State of Palestine is waiting for these countries and organizations to reconsider the level of their statements and rise to the level of the event and the historic injustice that our people are subjected to.”
