Caretaker Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Ali Hamieh, on Thursday stated that "the protection of civilians is one of the greatest challenges facing the Lebanese government." In an interview with Russia Today (RT), Hamieh emphasized the government's efforts to keep land, sea, and air crossings operational for the benefit of citizens. Moreover, Hamieh addressed Israeli rumors regarding Beirut Airport, noting that such claims are not new. He assured that the airport operated under Lebanese regulations and that all security agencies are ensuring its safety. "The airport is strictly for civilian use, not military, despite the fact that Israeli forces have violated Beirut's airspace around 1,000 times annually over the past decade," he added. Hamieh then condemned Israel's disregard for international law and humanitarian values. He also highlighted the continued efforts of Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Speaker Nabih Berri to achieve a ceasefire, adding that the government remains in contact with the international community. Regarding port operations, Hamieh mentioned that work was underway, in coordination with all stakeholders, to expedite the release of goods while ensuring food safety. "Lebanon is resilient and its people are strong. We will rise again through the unity of all Lebanese. We have the will to endure, and we rely on both action on the ground and diplomacy,' Hamieh concluded. Source: National News Agency - Lebanon
