Health Minister to chair WHA main committee

The World Health Assembly (WHA) has elected Health Minister Dr. Jaleela bint Al Sayyed Jawad Hasan as Chair of the WHA Main Committee (A), which deals with key technical issues, such as health systems and comprehensive health coverage. and emergency preparedness and response.

This came on the sidelines of the 76th WHA session, which opened today in Geneva, Switzerland, and will run until May 31.

“This is the first the head of Bahrin’s delegation is elected to this important position, which is essential in the work of the World Health Assembly”, said the minister.

In a statement, she stressed Bahrain’s to work in tandem with the World Health Organisation (WHO) to implement programmes and initiatives aimed at develop health systements and reinforcing health secuty.

The drive is in line with the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister to achieve health-related sustainable development goals.

Dr. Jalila chairs the committee, which discusses mainly the enhancement of WHO efficiency in providing countries with better support and proposed budget for the period 2024-2025.

He panel is also assigned to discuss the way one billion more people benefit from universal health coverage, one billion more people will be better protected from health emergencies, and one billion more people will enjoy better health and wellbeing.
