National universities are playing a crucial role in promoting sports and holding activities and competitions and supporting overseas’ participation, said His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), Chairman of the General Sports Authority (GSA), and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC).

HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad made the comments as he received at Al Wadi Palace in Riffa University of Bahrain (UoB) volleyball team, winner of the gold medal, and UoB TaeKwondo team, which clinched a gold medal and two bronze medals, at the International Sports Festival, recently held in Russia.

Present were GSA Deputy Chairman HH Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Chief Executive Officer Dr. Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, UoB President Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al Ansari, BOC Secretary General Faris Mustafa Al Kooheji and Bahrain Schools and Universities Sports Federation Chairman Dr. Shaikh Sager bin Salman Al Khalifa.

HH Shaikh Khalid hailed the achievements of both teams in the International Sports Festival, which honoured the Kingdom of Bahrain, congratulating the players as well as the administrative and technical staff
