Injuries in an attack by settlers in Hebron

A number of Palestinians were bodily hurt this evening as a result of an attack by Israeli settlers in the Al-Sahla neighborhood in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron, according to local sources.

WAFA correspondent said armed Israeli settlers, guarded by army, attacked Palestinian residents in the neighborhood, including by pepper gas, causing some of them to suffocate from gas inhalation.

Meantime, Palestinian residents of the Al-Sahla neighborhood and the adjacent Al-Shuhada Street in the city demonstrated in front of the Israeli checkpoint at the entrance to the neighborhood in protest of the humiliating Israeli military restrictions on the movement of Palestinians in the area, as well as in protest of the daily attacks by Israeli settlers.

The city of Hebron in the southern West Bank is home to roughly 200,000 Palestinians and about 800 notoriously aggressive Israeli settlers who live in compounds heavily guarded by Israeli troops.

Israel has expelled the only international monitors protecting Hebron’s Palestinians from 800 heavily guarded settlers, one of whom committed the 1994 massacre that triggered their deployment.
