Israel to evict Palestinian store owners from their stores

NAZARETH, Israel intends to forcefully evict dozens of Palestinian store owners from their stores in the Palestinian cities of Qalansuwa and Taybeh in central Israel.

The 48 News website said that officers of Israel’s Northern Planning and Building Committee handed at least 30 Palestinian citizens of Israel in Qalansuwa and Taybeh notices, ordering them to evict their stores purportedly for being built on lands that are not zoned as industrial.

The committee allowed the store owners 30 days to comply with the orders. Otherwise, each one will be fined 600,000 shekels (some USD $190,000).

The store owners described the eviction orders as a “catastrophe” that would befall hundreds of Palestinian families who depend on the stores for livelihood and result in economic losses and uncertainty.
