Israeli authorities order demolition of house under construction in East Jerusalem area

JERUSALEM, The Israeli occupation authorities today ordered a Palestinian resident in Wadi Qaddoum, an area in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan, to demolish his privately-owned house, which is still under construction.

The notice gave the owner seven days to tear down the house.

Palestinian researcher specializing in Jerusalem affairs, Fakhri Abu Diab, also received a notice ordering the demolition of part of his house in Silwan’s Bustan neighborhood.

Palestinians say they are forced to build without a permit because getting one from the Israeli municipality that discriminates against the Palestinian citizens of the city as part of its demographic battle for the city is an almost impossible task thus causing a serious housing shortage for the Palestinians.

While Palestinians are not allowed to build in their city and on their lands, the municipality and Israeli government build tens of thousands of housing units for Israelis on lands expropriated from their Palestinian owners.
