Israeli forces confiscate equipment, energy cells in central and northern Jordan Valley

Israeli occupation forces today confiscated equipment and photovoltaic (PV) cells, which generate electrical power by converting sunlight into electricity, in the central and northern Jordan Valley area.

Chairman of the Palestinian Energy and Natural Resources Authority, Zafer Melhem, slammed this Israeli measure as part of the Israeli occupation’s ethnic cleansing policy committed against the Palestinian people with the aim to Judaize the area and secure control over it and destroy everything related to livelihoods in an aim to force the residents to leave for the benefit of settlement expansion.

He said the occupation forces dismantled and destroyed the components of six solar energy systems with a capacity of 1.2 kilowatts for each system in the Baziq area, and three systems in the Yarzeh region with capacities of 1.2 kilowatts, 2 kilowatts, and 3.2 kilowatts, and caused other damages to residents’ homes and structures.

He stressed the importance of diversifying energy sources and reducing dependence on a single resource or provider, adding that investing in solar energy projects is a step towards consolidating energy independence and disengagement with the Israelis.

The Energy and Natural Resources Authority has started installing solar energy systems in the central and northern Jordan Valley as part of an integrated project approved by the government that aims to install more than 400 solar energy systems.

The Chairman of the Palestinian Energy and Natural Resources Authority said the Palestinian tendency to rely more on renewable energy sources is in line with the plan to develop and protect the Jordan Valley and the areas threatened with seizure by the Israeli authorities.
