JERUSALEM, Israeli police today detained 14 Palestinian women and four children from the West Bank while they were in occupied East Jerusalem, reported WAFA correspondent.
She said the police stopped the women and children outside Damascus Gate, one of the main gates of Jerusalem’s Old City, and after checking their identity cards and finding that they are from the West Bank, they were all detained and taken away in a police van.
The correspondent said the women came to Jerusalem to pray at Al-Aqsa Mosque, a very popular destination for Palestinians and Muslims everywhere.
Palestine residents of the occupied West Bank require an Israeli-army-issued permit to enter Jerusalem and the territory of historic Palestine in general.
Often West Bank residents caught in Jerusalem or in Israel without a permit are either detained for a few days, fined, or taken back to the West Bank.
