Istanbul explosion leaves 6 dead, 58 injured

An explosion on Istanbul’s Istiklal Avenue, one of the busiest streets in the city, Sunday left six people dead and 58 others injured, according to Ali Yerlikaya, the governor of Istanbul.

According to the Anadolu Agency, the official news agency in Turkey, the blast occurred at around 4.20 p.m. local time; and police, rescue officials hurried to the scene

‘The wounded are being treated’, Yerlikaya said on Twitter.

He said the blast occurred at around 4.20 p.m. local time, with police and emergency officials sent to the scene.

The cause of the explosion was not immediately clear.
