Marking International Children’s Day, Israel detained more than 750 Palestinian minors since start of year – PPS

RAMALLAH, Marking International Children’s Day, which coincides tomorrow, the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) said today that Israel detained more than 750 Palestinian children and minors since the start of this year, some of them were first shot and injured before they were detained.

It said that 160 children under the age of 18 are currently serving terms in Israeli jails, including three girls, two of them 16 years of age and the third 17, and five are held in administrative detention without charge or trial and based on secret evidence.

The PPS said in its report that most of the children were subjected to all sorts of physical and psychological torture during their detention in violation of international agreements and conventions on the rights of children.

Meanwhile, the PPS said that an Israeli court hearing is scheduled for tomorrow for 14-year-old Hussein Zubeidat, from the town of Bani Naim, east of the southern West Bank city of Hebron.

It said that Zubeidat, a ninth-grade student, was detained when he was near the illegal Kiryat Arba settlement in the occupied city of Hebron and soldiers beat and stripped him of his clothes and published pictures and a video of the child without his clothes.
