Ministry of Education hails decision of the Council of Ministers

Muscat: The Ministry of Education has praised the decision of the Council of Ministers chaired by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik on declaration of 24 February every year, which coincides with the Omani Teacher’s Day, as an official holiday for all teachers and assisting jobs at the government and private sector schools.

The ministry also commended the approval of the Ministry’s plan, including the new curricula prepared to cope with the requirements of the sustainable development and skills of the future, besides restructuring the educational system and implementation of the vocational and technical education from the academic year 2023/2024, in accordance with the executive plan to be set by the Ministry of Education.

The Ministry of Education reaffirmed that the above steps come within the attention of the government of His Majesty the Sultan, according priority to the education sector and as part of the development of the educational system to keep abreast of the international developments for the achievement of Oman Vision 2040.

The development of the study plan will also include reducing the number of subjects required for students in all grades, and it will also provide an opportunity to offer elective subjects from the ninth grade instead of the current eleventh grade, and the developed study plan will be implemented gradually in parallel with the application of the educational tracks.

The Ministry of Education indicated that the restructuring of the educational ladder for the academic classes will be in stages (1-4), (5-8), and (9-12), and it was consistent with the study plan, especially with regard to branching out science subjects from the classroom and providing a learning environment consistent with the multiplicity of educational paths.

The Minister of Education reaffirmed that the decision on allocation of the official holiday for teachers comes in recognition of the role teachers play in educating the various generations and for cementing the noble values in the hearts of students, which positively reflect in development of job performance and boosts motivation of teachers.
