Ministry of Information Hosts Panel Discussion on AI in Radio Broadcasting

Muscat: The Ministry of Information, represented by the Directorate General of Radio, organized a panel discussion titled "Radio and Artificial Intelligence" in celebration of World Radio Day, observed annually on 13 February. The event took place at the Ministry of Information Theatre.

According to Oman News Agency, the panel brought together a distinguished group of academics, experts in media and technology, and media professionals from the Sultanate of Oman. During his address, Yousuf Humaid Al Yousfi, Director General of Radio, highlighted the importance of rethinking the media's relationship with new technologies, specifically artificial intelligence, without losing the unique human aspect of radio. He emphasized that while AI technologies offer opportunities, they lack the ethical and cultural sensibilities inherent to human interaction.

The panel discussion explored several themes, focusing on the future of radio amid rapid technological advancements. This included the growing role of AI in developing radio content while maintaining media identity and professional values. The session featured three panel discussions, each addressing different aspects of AI's integration into radio. These discussions emphasized the importance of establishing regulatory frameworks to ensure the responsible use of AI, safeguarding credibility, intellectual property, and data privacy.

Participants underscored the role of academic institutions in equipping media professionals with the skills needed to leverage AI tools effectively. The consensus was that while AI can support radio work, it cannot replace the essential human elements such as voice and professional values.

The session forms part of the Ministry of Information's efforts to align with technological advancements in media, fostering responsible AI use, and enhancing radio's societal role without compromising its core mission. The event was attended by representatives from various radio stations in Oman, alongside radio professionals and enthusiasts.
